Job Description
The Town of Pine Knoll Shores is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable professional to serve as our next Town Planner within the Planning and Inspections Department. Located on North Carolina's beautiful Crystal Coast, Pine Knoll Shores is a unique coastal community dedicated to preserving its natural environment while thoughtfully planning for the future. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on land use planning, community development, and floodplain management. Position Summary The Town Planner performs professional planning work involving land development review, zoning administration, GIS mapping, code enforcement, floodplain management, and long-range planning initiatives. The position serves as a key resource for residents, contractors, developers, boards, commissions, and government agencies regarding local planning and development regulations.
Essential Duties Include:
Reviewing development applications, subdivisions, rezonings, annexations, site plans, and related projects. Preparing reports, ordinances, resolutions, maps, and planning documents. Managing and maintaining GIS data and mapping systems. Supporting the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, and Board of Commissioners through research, presentations, and staff reports. Serving as the Town's Floodplain Manager and Community Rating System (CRS) Coordinator. Assisting with long-range planning efforts, including land use, transportation, hazard mitigation, and resilience planning. Responding to inquiries from residents, contractors, builders, and development professionals. Performing code enforcement duties and ensuring compliance with applicable ordinances. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree. One to three years of professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of planning principles, zoning regulations, land development processes, GIS applications, and community planning practices. Strong communication, public presentation, and customer service skills. Ability to interpret surveys, site plans, engineering drawings, and maps. Salary & Benefits Salary Range:
