This Planner position will have a range of responsibilities in conjunction with the preparation of ordinances and regulatory language for ongoing implementation and development of the City's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), as well as the preparation and analysis of rezoning cases throughout the city. These responsibilities may include some or all of the following: technical writing, planning research and analysis, plan review, development proposal review, policy development, meeting facilitation, presentations to elected and appointed officials, and geographic information services support.Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical writing Ordinance development and writing Planning research & analysis Plan review Development proposal review Presentations to elected & appointed officials Support departmental efforts in planning and regulatory processes and projects. Review and comment on development and planning related proposals Support initiatives involving the public and community groups. Prepare and interpret planning reports, regulations and analyses. Coordinate and collaborate with other departments on planning and regulatory matters. Present planning recommendations and proposed regulations to interdepartmental teams, external stakeholder groups, and similar under supervision Facilitate and participate in meetings with staff, other departments and members of the public.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Engineering, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Science, Landscape Architecture or related degree Planning background with emphasis in application of regulatory tools such as zoning Site plan review experience with experience analyzing & assessing complex urban rezoning petitions Thorough understanding of planning policy & implementation of policy through regulations Ability to confidently communicate with excellent public speaking & writing skills / group facilitation skills Skilled in working on multiple projects and fulfilling multiple responsibilities simultaneously Ability to perform effectively & efficiently with minimal level of supervisionPreferred Qualifications:
Master's degree AICP or other certificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of relevant work experience.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
