Position Number 06WMP2 Position Type Temporary Essential Job Duties The School Planning and Transportation group supports Local Education Authorities (LEAs) in comprehensive planning for schools and communities (SchoolCAMP), enrollment, facilities and boundary planning (OREd) and school transportation (Bike/Ped, Transit, School Bus). This position will support multiple initiatives at ITRE that support local, state and national Public Pre-Kindergarten to 12 th grade school district operational needs through technical expertise and project leadership. This position combines demographics, transportation, land use, and community needs utilizing current best practices in K12 Operations and quality Applied Research. This position will support SchoolCAMP and OREd, research and public sector planning consulting programs designed to assist LEAs with enrollment forecasting, comprehensive planning, alternatives development, impact analysis, and implementation of school facility development and boundary planning that is sensitive to local community needs and school transportation concerns. The successful individual will facilitate quality, trusting relationships with LEA leadership and staff, school board members, community partners, local elected officials, industry advocacy groups, and the research community. The person in this position is expected to support relationships with these key stakeholders and leverage these relationships to acquire future funding to sustain and grow the program, all while providing excellent service to existing partners. However, the successful candidate will support the Principal Investigator on projects that include other ITRE staff and will therefore be responsible for ensuring quality work is conducted in a timely manner. In addition, it is expected that direct supervisory responsibilities will emerge as the program grows. Minimum Experience/Education Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree plus 7 or more years of independent research experience, or substantive relevant experience and education. Department Required Skills A community and school planning background with a working knowledge of the State's geographic and socio-political makeup. Ability to prepare and analyze large datasets and communicate results in a professional and clear manner to clients. Ability to work with large datasets (>50,000 records). Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate well with project team members and project clients; Excellent presentation skills. Selected candidate needs the technical and personal skills required to: Lead interviews with local municipal and county planners Collect and manage GIS data related to local residential development, US Census, and/or other data. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Preferred experience planning for school systems (Public K12), land use (school siting, boundaries, residential developments), bicycle and pedestrian systems planning, and public transit partnerships.
Experience in:
- School enrollment, academic program implementation within facilities, K12 operations and transportation planning - School planning and transportation advocacy and/or research groups Proficiency with Microsoft Access, other database software, and/or computer programming. Working understanding of Geographic Information Systems Statistical analysis skills for tabular and/or spatial statistics Experience working with dozens of stakeholders Experience making presentations to elected officials Required License or Certification N/A Valid NC Driver's License required?
