GENERAL PURPOSE
Provide assistance and support to guide the community's growth, development and land. Provide general information and assistance to developers and the public on planning related matters.SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives direction from the Director of Planning.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interprets planning policies and zoning regulations for members of the public. Primarily responsible for customers at the front counter and all other communication platforms. Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues relative to planning, zoning, and development activities within the City. Provides guidance to applicants and the public regarding the preparation and submission of conditional use permits, subdivision applications, zoning amendments, and other land use applications. Accepts and reviews land use applications for completeness and accuracy for processing by the Planning Department, the Planning Commission, and the City Council. Provides applicants with insight and feedback when corrections are needed. Prepares and posts public hearing notices as required by Utah State Code in the Land Use Development Management Act, and Herriman City Code. Prepares reports, projects, and meeting agenda items for the Planning Commission, as needed. May attend public hearings; provides research and suggestions to the Planning Commission and the City Council on planning matters. Assists in the review of building permit applications for compliance with zoning requirements, as needed. Conducts inspections permits approved by the Planning Commission or Planning Department to ascertain compliance with imposed conditions, as needed. Provides research and analysis to the Planning Director, including recommendations related to development standards, planning objectives, and evaluation criteria. Assists the Planning Director by participating in and coordinating special planning, zoning, and environmental studies, and preparing reports and findings. Pursues professional development and certification through conferences, courses, and department training assignments to maintain professional competency and ethical standards. May assists with and oversees the work of internship staff. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with major coursework in city planning, community planning, engineering or similar: or An equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience:
Two (2) years in customer service or similar experience to duties of the position.Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and driving record check.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of city planning experience in local government or the private sectorKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Fundamental knowledge of urban planning terminology, theory, and application; land use law and authority; and land use review, permitting, and development process. Beginning skills in ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Able to type 40 words per minute (WPM). Knowledge of effective writing and public presentation techniques.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls and the ability to travel to different sites and locations. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Essential functions generally require communication, such as talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger, leg, and foot dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and some creative problem-solving. Periodic local travel may be required as part of normal job performance.
