Performs a wide variety of moderately specialized, complex operational, technical and administrative, and logistical tasks duties in support of transportation programs routing and planning activities; conducts assigned area-wide transportation technical reporting duties; maintains data in computer assisted routing software.

Required Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate. Three (3) years of experience in general office administration, scheduling, routing, dispatching, or related field. Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience. Ability to work flexible hours, as required. Knowledge of transportation procedures, operations, scheduling, and routing strategies. Knowledge of FCPS school locations and street and road systems for the Fairfax County, DC, and Maryland area. Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to student transportation. Ability to plan and implement efficient routes. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Ability to read and interpret maps. Ability to utilize computer and applicable transportation and office suite software. Ability to collect, synthesize and report data using appropriate computer technology. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Preferred Experience as a bus driver or attendant. Knowledge of computerized transportation routing systems. Knowledge of school transportation.

Major Duties/Essential Functions:
Plans and develops school bus routes, bus stop sequence, and schedules that are safe, dependable, and efficient within the framework of a predetermined routing and scheduling calendar. Determines student eligibility for transportation and assigns students to bus routes and stops utilizing computerized transportation routing systems; adjusts boundaries as needed. Verifies and maintains data in the computer assisted routing software to include routes, equipment, and student information including changes, transfers, and transportation needs. Periodically audits the planned routes to ensure optimization. Provides ""what-if"" scenarios, multiple solutions, and recommends best option related to such scenarios as change of a program from one school or center to another, change in bell schedules, emergency routing, and boundary changes. Makes route recommendations to provide maximum and efficient utilization of buses, route length, traffic pattern variability, street closures, and ride times. Revises bus routes and/or adds buses to routes to accommodate new programs, bell schedules, and/or changes in student addresses, transfers, withdrawals, or new enrollments. Plans transportation routing for out-of-boundary students. Creates crisis routes to support Fairfax County, as needed. Assists with transportation planning for shuttle programs, School-Age Child Care (SACC), RecPac, field trips, and summer school programs. Gathers, tabulates, and categorizes data for reports concerning route timing, load counts, late runs. Generates statistical information for state-mandated reports, quarterly and annually. Attends and participates in various divisionwide transportation-related meetings. Delivers informational training to transportation staff in routing and planning processes Assists with the review and revision of procedural manuals. Performs clerical support and dispatcher duties as backup for office operations, as required by operational necessity. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
