Job Description

A Pre-K through 6th grade (elementary) school counselor provides comprehensive, data-driven support for academic, social-emotional, and career development . They deliver individual/group counseling, teach classroom guidance lessons, facilitate conflict resolution, and collaborate with staff and parents to support student mental health and academic success.
Key Responsibilities Counseling & Support:
Provide individual and small-group counseling, social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons, and crisis intervention.
Academic & Career Development:
Help students build organizational skills, test-taking strategies, academic goal-setting, and early career awareness.
Collaboration & Advocacy:
Work with teachers on classroom management/positive behavior interventions (PBIS) and partner with parents regarding child development.
Assessment & Referrals:
Identify student needs, conduct assessments, and refer families to community resources for more intensive support.
School Culture:
Create a safe, positive environment by promoting diversity and addressing bullying. Common Duties Conducting classroom guidance lessons on topics like bullying, friendship, and emotional regulation. Helping students develop coping strategies and problem-solving skills. Participating in school-wide initiatives and support teams (MTSS, IEP meetings). Communicating with parents/guardians about student behavioral or emotional concern Must have Master's Degree in School Counseling Completion of the State of Alabama Counseling Certification
