Job Description

Overview Montessori School of Flagstaff is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join our educational team for the 2026-2027 school year Terms of employment: Full time 10-month (August - May) contract for the 2026-2027 school year. (Possibility for Part-time contract.)
Benefits:
Full time employees are eligible for retirement, medical, and dental benefits.
Pay Range:
Full time $45,000-$55,000 depending on education and experience
Evaluation:
Performance for this position will be evaluated by Head of School Job Summary Required Qualifications Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Arizona certification as a School Counselor. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in an educational or counseling setting. Strong knowledge of child development, counseling techniques, and mental health issues in children and adolescents. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations and address a variety of student needs. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a Montessori school environment or familiarity with Montessori philosophy and teaching methods. Bilingual abilities (Spanish preferred) to support communication with a diverse student body and parent community. Additional certifications in areas such as play therapy, trauma-informed care, or special education. Experience in designing and implementing social-emotional learning (SEL) programs. Instruction:
Develop and implement age-appropriate counseling programs that align with Montessori educational principles, focusing on emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and self-awareness. Deliver instructional service minutes, follow student IEPs toward student goals and Deliver classroom-based lessons on social-emotional learning, mental health awareness, and life skills development. Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address academic, behavioral, and social challenges. Support teachers in creating and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to students' emotional and psychological well-being.
Collaboration:
Work closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop comprehensive plans for students requiring additional support. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress, challenges, and strategies for growth. Coordinate with external resources, such as psychologists, social workers, and community organizations, to provide holistic support for students. Assist in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral intervention plans as needed.
Communication:
Maintain open and consistent communication with parents/guardians regarding their child's social-emotional development, progress, and any concerns. Conduct parent workshops and informational sessions on topics such as positive discipline, stress management, and developmental milestones. Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of student service minutes, interactions, interventions, and progress, including Special Education progress reports. Collaborate with teachers to provide feedback and recommendations for supporting students in and out of the classroom.
