An Academic or Guidance Counselor provides guidance to students in elementary, middle and high schools to help them succeed academically and socially. Works with school teachers and administrators to address problems that affect student performance, and identifies resources for students and families. Helps high school students to plan academic course work and advises on the college search and application process.

Principal Position Description:
Responsible for providing assessment, counseling, written reports and referrals for students.
Essential Functions:
Plan and maintain an effective school counseling program. Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program with students, staff, and parents. Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans. Complete reports as required by Federal, State and local agencies. Collaborate and communicate with parents/guardians, and other educators to assist the students. Participate in school meetings, staff meetings and committees as needed. Demonstrate an understanding of the Imagine Schools Six Measures of Excellence in the execution of duties. Model positive character virtues and habits. Assist students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes. Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/School Leader.
Certification:
Must hold a valid
AZ School Counselor Certificate Education:
A Certified School Counselor must have a graduate degree from a guidance and counseling program, counseling, social work, or psychology program, or a behavioral health license from AZBHE.
Experience:
2-3 years similar experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations and statutes. Ability to communicate cooperatively and constructively with other staff, students and parents in a multi-cultural environment. Basic computer skills.
