Open Until Filled Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a School Counselor at WHS. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible specialist position.JOB SUMMARY
: The High School School Counselor is responsible for supporting the academic, career, personal, and social development of students in grades 9â€"12. This role involves providing direct counseling services, collaborating with educators and families, assisting with college and career planning, and fostering a safe, inclusive environment that promotes student success. The counselor plays a vital role in ensuring students meet graduation requirements by guiding them through course selection, analyzing transcripts and credits, and assisting with post-secondary planning. The counselor serves as a key resource for students navigating academic challenges, social-emotional needs, and post-secondary transitions.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
: Must hold or be eligible for School Counseling certification in the State of Delaware. Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, or related field Experience working with high school students in a school setting preferred Strong understanding of graduation requirements, transcript evaluation, academic programming, and scheduling Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to handle confidential student information with discretion and in compliance with FERPA Proficiency in student information systems (e.g., Infinite Campus, Naviance) Familiarity with college and career planning tools and resources Must be available to work required additional summer daysESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Review student transcripts and academic histories to ensure accurate credit tracking and progression toward graduation Develop and manage individualized student schedules that align with graduation requirements, career goals, and academic needs Coordinate scheduling processes with administration, registrar, and instructional staff Adjust schedules based on course availability, failed credits, student interest, and specialized programming (e.g., dual enrollment, credit recovery) Conduct credit audits and provide academic planning sessions for all students, especially juniors and seniors Communicate with families about scheduling decisions and academic standing Provide individual and small-group counseling on issues such as peer conflict, self-esteem, grief/loss, and family dynamics Refer students to appropriate external support services for additional mental health needs Support a positive school culture by promoting student well-being, healthy relationships, and social-emotional learning Guide students through college applications, FAFSA completion, scholarship opportunities, and career exploration Host college visits, job shadowing programs, and military recruiter sessions Assist with planning and delivering college and career fairs, parent workshops, and classroom guidance lessons Respond to student crises and safety concerns with appropriate intervention and follow-up Serve on the school's crisis response and student support teams Advocate for students' academic and emotional needs in meetings such as IEPs, 504s, or MTSS Maintain accurate records of student interactions, credit tracking, and counseling services Use data to inform interventions and identify students in need of academic or behavioral support Help implement a comprehensive counseling program aligned with ASCA National Model standards Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community agencies to support students Stay current on best practices in counseling and educational policy through ongoing professional development Support school-wide initiatives related to equity, inclusion, student leadership, and wellness Other duties as assigned Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks and clearances. This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
