KHS Position Summary:
We are seeking a collaborative and student-focused High School Summer School Counselor to support students during our 2026 Summer School Program. The counselor will play a key role in helping students navigate academic and social-emotional challenges, recover credits, and make informed decisions about their educational pathways. The counselor will also support staff by providing student insights and intervention strategies to foster academic success and personal growth. This position is contingent upon student enrollment and will be filled in accordance with district staffing guidelines.
Qualifications:
Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement Prior experience working with high school students in academic and counseling settings is preferred Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, teachers, and administrators
Performance Responsibilities:
Provide academic, social-emotional, and college/career counseling to students enrolled in summer school Assist with student scheduling, credit recovery planning, and goal setting Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and behavioral concerns; implement appropriate interventions and referrals as needed Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop and support strategies that promote student success Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, support needs, and available resources Facilitate group and individual counseling sessions as appropriate Support transitions for incoming 9th-grade students or students preparing for graduation/post-secondary plans Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students Maintain accurate and confidential student records and submit required documentation in a timely manner, including updating transcripts as credits are recovered Attend required professional development and staff meetings Be present for the full duration of the summer session, with a maximum of three absences allowed
