DESCRIPTION
The Honors College Academic Advisor and Instructor provides comprehensive academic advising, student support, and instructional services for Honors College students. Responsibilities include monitoring student eligibility for Honors College membership and graduation requirements; providing academic advising, degree planning, and course scheduling through Banner; assisting with student recruitment, orientation, and retention initiatives; coordinating seminars, workshops, ceremonies, competitions, and other co-curricular activities; maintaining accurate student records and preparing reports; teaching Honors College Colloquium courses, including developing course syllabi and instructional materials; participating in occasional travel for student activities and professional development; and performing other duties as assigned by the Dean in support of the mission and goals of the Honors College.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach Honors College Colloquium courses and seminars that develop critical thinking, research, analytical reasoning, and effective oral and written communication skills. Prepare course syllabi, assess student learning outcomes, and maintain accurate academic records.
Provide comprehensive academic advising to Honors College students by assisting with course selection, degree planning, class registration for students with fewer than 60 credit hours, interpretation of academic policies, and timely progression toward graduation.
Mentor and support student success by helping students develop academic, career, and leadership goals; providing guidance on time management and personal development; and referring students to appropriate campus resources, including tutoring, counseling, disability services, career services, and financial aid.
Support undergraduate research and experiential learning by mentoring students in research, independent study, capstone projects, and Honors thesis preparation while promoting participation in fellowships, study abroad, academic enrichment programs, and competitive opportunities.
Coordinate student engagement activities by organizing and participating in workshops, guest lectures, conferences, competitions, leadership programs, and other Honors College events, including traveling with students to support educational and professional development opportunities.
Maintain student records and utilize university systems by using Banner, learning management systems, and other technologies to monitor academic progress, maintain records, analyze assessment data, and prepare reports that support continuous program improvement..
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and university partners to advance the mission of the Honors College, promote student leadership and engagement, and perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, a STEM discipline, Liberal Arts discipline, or a closely related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching at the college or university level and/or providing academic advising or student support services.
