Job Description

Athol Community Elementary School is seeking a school counseling professional to support our students with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Educators with guidance and/ or adjustment counseling credentials will be considered.

The ideal candidate will excel in empowering students to achieve their fullest potential byencouraging ownership, self-advocacy, organization, and inquiry. He or she will be able to utilizeculturally proficient practices, respond to students' personal, social-emotional, and mental healthneeds, and personalize the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning. Working regularly with various tools, including Google Docs, Follett Aspen X2, and Esped, are essential elements of this position.

This position may be responsible for implementing guidance curriculum modules using Character Strong, CASEL, and evidence-based practices, including creating scope and sequence charts that describe the topics and competencies to be taught at each grade level, articulating what students should know, understand, and be able to do as a result of the program.

A clear communicator who takes time to share students needs, plans, and expectations with teachers, deans of students, assistant principal, and principal, as well as to parents, when the need arises, is an important part of this role. Planning, organizing, and delivering the comprehensive school counseling program throughlarge/small group/individual sessions of developmentally appropriate instructional activities,presentations, and assessments that cultivate students' competencies across key developmental domains utilizing the MA Model for School Counselors.

Providing counseling and support services to students on educational plans is required, including writing IEP goals and objectives, as well as writing special education progress reports. A clear and working understanding of MTSS, special education, and Section 504 regulations is required. Adhering to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession as set forth by the American School Counselor Association. Maintaining confidentiality is paramount.
