RSU 4 is seeking to fill an open Elementary School Guidance Counselor position in grades Pre-K and 2nd-4th graders at Carrie Ricker School In Litchfield, Maine.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and small-group counseling to students experiencing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes personal growth, social-emotional learning, academic achievement, and career awareness. Conduct classroom guidance lessons on topics such as conflict resolution, emotional regulation, bullying prevention, decision-making, goal setting, and healthy relationships. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to identify student needs and develop intervention strategies. Consult with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, and available community resources. Participate in Student Support Teams, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, Section 504 meetings, and other multidisciplinary teams as appropriate. Assist in crisis intervention and provide support during emergencies, including risk assessments and referrals to outside agencies when necessary. Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress, implementing interventions to improve student success. Maintain accurate, confidential student records in accordance with school, district, state, and federal regulations. Coordinate referrals to mental health providers, social service agencies, and other community resources. Promote a positive school climate through school-wide initiatives, character education, and prevention programs. Support student transitions into kindergarten, between grade levels, and from elementary to middle school. Advocate for the educational, emotional, and developmental needs of all students while promoting equity and inclusion.
