An Academic or Guidance Counselor provides guidance to students in elementary, middle and high schools to help them succeed academically and socially. Works with school teachers and administrators to address problems that affect student performance, and identifies resources for students and families. Helps high school students to plan academic course work and advises on the college search and application process.

School Year Summary:
The High School Counselor will be responsible for providing counseling services to students in Coloma High School. The counselor will work full-time and will be expected to provide support to students in various areas. The counselor will schedule all students classes and ensure compliance with the state of Michigan graduation requirements.
Responsibilities :
Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students Develop and implement programs to assist students in academic and personal growth Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to identify and address student needs Provide crisis intervention and support to students as needed Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progress Participate in school-wide initiatives to promote student success and well-being Attend professional development opportunities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge Will be responsible for student scheduling State Assessment and Accommodation Coordinator Coordinate Student Success Team Meetings Coordinate and Implement Decision Day for Seniors Coordinate and Implement Senior Awards Graduation Requirements including but not limited to active participation in the graduation ceremony Auditing Grades & auditing seniors for graduation requirements Active in he districts
PLC Process Requirements:
Master's degree in counseling or related field State licensure or certification as a counselor Experience working with adolescents preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community members Knowledge of counseling theories and techniques Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in counseling practice Powerschool experience preferred
