Per VEA Contract The Vicksburg Community School District is a K-12 district in south central Kalamazoo County. Our district serves over 2,600 throughout our one high school, one middle school and three elementary schools, employing approximately 175 teachers and 200 other employees to support the needs of our students. We encompass over 110 square miles of rural, suburban, and small town geography including the villages of Vicksburg and Fulton, and of eight townships. The District boasts fourteen lakes, which creates a unique style of suburban living. Our residents enjoy all the advantages of a small town with a major metropolitan area just a few miles north. The school district takes pride in being a high achieving district. Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an Elementary School Counselor. The School Counselor serves as a key leader and collaborator within the schools Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) frameworks. The counselor works to promote the academic, career and social-emotional development of all students. By partnering with administrators, teachers and families, the counselor ensures systematic barriers to student success are removed and behavior interventions are implemented equitably. Responsibilities
  • Deliver standards-based, preventative school counseling curriculum focusing on social-emotional learning, academic success and career awareness to all classrooms.
  • Actively support the school-wide PBIS team to define, teach, and acknowledge universal behavioral expectations.
  • Assist in reviewing school-wide academic and behavioral data/screens to identify systematic needs and students requiring additional support.
  • Facilitate evidence based, short-term small group counseling focusing on topics such as emotional regulation, social skills, grief, and executive functioning.
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers to provide strategies and accommodations for students identified as at-risk.
  • Connect families with external mental health professionals, community resources, and specialized educational support systems.
  • Manage 504 plans, behavior assessments and positive behavior support plans.
  • Attend District Multi Tired Systems of Support (MTSS)Team meetings, including but not limited to: MTSS Leadership Team, MTSS Academic, MTSS Social Emotional Learning

  • Valid School Counselor endorsement (NT) or Michigan School Counselor License (SCL) required.
  • Master's Degree in School Counseling, a valid Michigan school counseling credential and a clear understanding of
MTSS/PBIS
protocols.
  • Data-driven mindset, with the ability to collect, analyze and interpret data on attendance, behavior, social emotional, and academics to drive program decisions.
  • Experience with elementary aged children.
  • Ability to support the vision, mission and beliefs of Vicksburg Community Schools.
  • Ability to assume responsibility with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships.
  • Effective communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
  • Demonstrated strength in organization and efficiency in planning for and meeting deadlines.
  • Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students and adhere to District and School polices, expectations and protocols. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move about the building and campus to assist students.
  • May require and employee to lift and/or move heavy object up to 25lbs.
  • A portion of the workday may be spent traveling between buildings and/or districts.
