PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assumes a leadership role in planning, developing and initiating an effective developmental guidance program for the school in cooperation with the site administration. Works with all concerned persons in assisting in understanding and appreciating the individuality of each student. Maintains a daily schedule of guidance/counseling activities. Plans and leads small groups and classroom activities designed to assist students to an increased self-understanding and self-worth, as well as an understanding of others and an appreciation of their worth and uniqueness. Plans and leads classroom guidance designed to assist students to an increased awareness of self and others in the areas of character education, academic success, problem solving, study skills, effective communication and career awareness. Works to identify and help in proper placement of exceptional students and maintains confidential and cumulative student records. Works to identify students with social/emotional needs. Establish and coordinate support groups correlating with the District Student Assistance Program Philosophy. Works with students on an individual basis in developing coping skills and/or resolution of personal problems. Assists in identifying and facilitating referral of children with serious problems to other school or community services. Interprets the guidance program to the community and provides community agencies with information on the needs of youth. Is responsible for student enrollment and schedule changes. Coordinates parent/teacher conferences as needed. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves on committees as required. Is actively involved in professional growth activities. Completes reports and other school-related paperwork as required within stated timelines. Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers. Coordinates the distribution, administration and inventory of District and State-mandated testing in accordance with State and local regulations as assigned by the site administrator. Introduces and begins using District College and Career Planner with eighth grade students. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulations. Demonstrates stated criteria for effective counseling performance. Maintains appropriate emotional control, physical health and personal appearance. Maintains confidentiality. Abides by all district, federal and state laws, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand, walk, squat frequently. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently. Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather. Ability to walk or move long distances from location to location around the building multiple times each day.
