REQUIRED:
Master's Degree; Valid Texas Counselor's Certificate; Valid Texas Teacher's Certificate. Three (3) years teaching experience. The role of the Counselor - Migrant is to counsel and provide related services which help students acquire skills in the social, personal, educational, and career areas that are necessary for living in a multicultural society. The migrant counselor is to provide information through group guidance that contributes to the development of effective learning environments through migrant students' advocacy and through consulting with others which are consistent with Board Policy and with statutes and standards of regulatory agencies. The migrant counselor is responsible for contributing to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of each migrant student. In addition, the Migrant Counselor is responsible for interpreting migrant student data, planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive program of guidance for migrant students; assist with the consolidation of partial grades; work with TMIP regarding local/out of district/out of state grades; assist with the recruitment and identification of migrant students; assist with giving priority to the needs of PFS migrant students; provide individual counseling on a need basis for all migrant students; coordinate college and CAMP trips; utilize NGS reports to provide migrant students with academic assistance and advocate for all migrant students to ensure on-time graduation and enrollment into a higher education program.
