To provide leadership to enable all students to utilize their educational opportunities to the fullest by eliminating as far as possible, those problems that prevent or interfere with the student's learning.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Minimum of a master's degree. A valid school counseling certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position.Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staffExperience:
At least three years of teaching experience.Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist in the prevention and intervention of school dropouts by working cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and attendance officers in the intervention and prevention of truancy and in the resolution of student's educational handicaps. 2. Monitor and provide support for at-risk students. 3. Remain available to students providing counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. 4. Aid students in course and subject selection, four-year plans, and graduation through evaluation of their aptitudes as taken from standardized tests, psychometric data, and pertinent records data. 5. Provide up to date information on post-secondary training, college entrance tests, financial aid, and scholarships, and provide and make recommendations on student performance for such purpose. 6. Counsel and provide strategies for students experiencing academic failure and/or exhibiting inappropriate behaviors. 7. Facilitate and coordinate parent conferences. 8. Coordinate and implement the administration of the standardized testing program. 9. Provide for, and participate in, group guidance programs with emphasis on learning to be responsible for one's behavior, school orientation programs, effective study methods, educational and career planning, and personal and social development. 10. Take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives and the guidance program to student's parents, and the community at large. 11. Maintain high visibility among faculty and student body. 12. Assist administration in student management. 13. Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Director of Counseling Services or designeeSupervisory Responsibilities:
