Advise students and provide guidance in development and completion of each student's personal graduation plan (PGP). Coordinate post-secondary academic testing such as SAT, ACT, and TSI. Coordinate the Campus 504 and MTSS programs. Coordinate the Campus Compass Program. Coordinate all aspects of college admissions.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in guidance counseling or school administration• Valid Texas counseling certificate or administrator's certificate Only a counselor or an administrator may develop personal graduation plans at the high school level. In addition to a counselor or administrator, a teacher or other appropriate individual may develop the plan at the junior high or middle school level. [TEC §28.0212 and §28.02121]
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the development of personal graduation plans Knowledge of state and federal laws for educating students with disabilities Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
Experience:
Two years teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Guidance Guide individual students to identify a course of study that promotes college and workforce readiness, career placement and advancement, and helps the student make the transition from secondary to post-secondary education. Review personal graduation plan (PGP) options with individual students and their parent or guardian and monitor progress toward attainment of goals. Help the student to access and make use of proven educational resources, innovative methods, and other interventions that will accelerate the learning process. Guide individual students to plan, monitor, and manage the student's own educational and career development including providing information about post-secondary opportunities. Conduct initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and reviews of 504 and MTSS plans for eligible students. Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and implementing Section 504 and MTSS programs. Regularly review student progress and modify plans as needed to ensure continued access to the general education curriculum. Coordinate and lead 504 meetings, ensuring appropriate stakeholders (teachers, parents, administrators) are present and actively contributing. Track timelines for evaluations, re-evaluations, and annual reviews. Coordinate all aspects required for post-secondary academic testing. Coordinate the campus accelerated instruction program (Compass) Assessment Interpret standardized and post-secondary test results and assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning. Program Management and Administration Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
