05/06/2026 Provide counseling services for special education students and their parents so students benefit from instruction and achieve academically. Adhere to federal, state laws and regulations, as well as, district policies regulations and procedures. Essential Functions Provide counseling services to students within the special education program as referred through the established Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process. Serve on the ARD committee when appropriate; provide input at transfer ARDs, annual ARDs and three-year re-evaluation ARDs for students served in counseling through the special education program. Serve as the district's liaison with parents of students with disabilities and community agencies which provide services to the disabled. Maintain appropriate student records, protect their confidentiality and interpret them to authorized parties. Provides information to parents, teachers and administrators regarding each special education student's counseling program. Provide information to parents, and others regarding the legal rights of students with disabilities. Assists in the collection and analysis of appraisal data pertaining to psycho-educational and sociological variables. Provides consultation and training to teachers, parents, and other district personnel regarding the management of behavior. Provides crisis intervention as needed or requested, i.e., emergencies or response to an administrative concern. Work cooperatively and positively with licensed specialists in school psychology (LSSPs), diagnosticians, and other ARD committee members in providing counseling services to special education students. Demonstrate good judgment in standards of dress and meeting the specific requirements of the position with emphasis on professional appearance, cleanliness and safety. Accept responsibility for personal improvement and professional growth. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. Other Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master's degree; Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors OR School Counselor certification (Pre-K through 12 public education); Certification in Special Education preferred; Two (2) years of verifiable teaching experience (Pre-K through Grade 12). Knowledge of educational programs, demonstrated ability to work with students, parents and school personnel. Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license and must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier. Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with disabilities. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
