Perform counseling services to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and ability to enjoy the benefits of the educational process. Provide coping strategies and proactively support students before, during, and after crisis situations. Function as part of the student services team to formulate plans with the school, students, and parents.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas school counselor certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Training in crisis and trauma counseling Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents or guardians, and students Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions Knowledge of graduation requirements Knowledge of career development Knowledge of College, Career, and Military Readiness indicators, pathways for industry certification, post-secondary training, FAFSA/TAFSA completion, college entrance requirements and exams Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents or guardians, and district staff Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Major Responsibilities and Duties Coordinate the district program for students in at-risk situations. Collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide educational and career opportunities for students at
  • risk.
Coordinate the Section 504 program for the district. Provide support to students, parents, teachers, other counselors, and administrators in the identification, evaluation, and development of individualized plans designed to support students in need of intervention. (Potential hire can be trained in this responsibility.) Plan, conduct, and maintain records of LPAC meetings regarding emergent bilingual students. (Potential hire can be trained in this responsibility.) Provide resources and materials to aid staff in accomplishing program goals and work with district staff to develop and encourage participation in programs that support at-risk students. Contribute to the development of program goals to reduce school failure and dropout rates. Support district programming to enhance career pathways and certification programs. Coordinate college and career development services and establish and maintain business/education partnerships that support the district's strategic plan related to CCMR. Coordinate the scheduling, registration, and administration of college entrance exams; analyze and distribute test results as appropriate Use preventive activities to remove barriers that interfere with a student's educational, career, personal, and social development. Implement remediation practices to assist students in coping with problem situations or unwise choices. Identify precipitating and antecedent factors, effective and ineffective approaches to dealing with the circumstances, and provide feedback to guide future decisions. Use specialized skills to support students in crisis situations requiring immediate response. Maintain a healthy and safe school environment by collaborating with district staff, parents or guardians, and local officials. Provide continued support to students in need through individual counseling, small group counseling, consultation, or referral to services outside the school or district. Serve as an impartial for interpersonal conflicts and discourse involving two or more students, including accusations of bullying. Interpret standardized test results, offer career development activities, provide strategies for grade level transitions, and guide students in individual goal setting and planning including creating and reviewing personal graduation plans and providing information about post-secondary opportunities. Assist MTSS Committees at elementary and secondary campuses to assess students' response to interventions and develop a plans of action.
