Job Description

Position Summary:
GANAS Community Organization is seeking a collaborative and student-focused Student Support Specialist to provide social-emotional and academic support to Latino students in Contra Costa County. This individual will develop intervention plans, monitor students progress, conduct intake assessments, assist with behavior management, and manage referrals for attendance, academic concerns and disciplinary issues. The Student Support Specialist works with students, parents, school staff, local colleges, outside agencies and community organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support:
Provide direct support and counseling to students struggling with academic, social, or emotional challenges. Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Intervention Planning:
Develop and implement academic and behavior management goals, tailoring them to individual students' needs.
Progress Monitoring:
Track student progress, adjust support strategies as needed, and document performance for internal use and parent communication.
Collaboration:
Work with teachers, parents, counselors, and administrators to create comprehensive support strategies and address student needs holistically.
Case Management:
Document services provided and referrals made to outside agencies, conduct assessments for students and families needing support, and make referrals for internal/external services and resources.
Behavior Management:
Assist in establishing positive learning environments.
Parent Engagement:
Communicate regularly with parents, facilitating meetings to discuss student progress and collaborative support plans.
Data Collection:
Assist with collecting and inputting data for program evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field preferred Experience in youth development, teaching, or academic support programs Strong problem-solving, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills Collaborative working style Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently Experience mentoring others Proficiency in Google Workspace, and basic data tracking tools Passion for supporting student learning and achievement Must have reliable vehicle to travel to school locations
Preferred Skills:
Bilingual (Spanish) Experience working with diverse student populations Knowledge of K-12 curriculum standards GANAS Community Organization Mission To serve low income Latino students and families in a holistic manner by providing essential services, such as tutoring, non-clinical counseling and mentoring to increase attendance, academic achievement and economic stability as well as civic engagement.
