Job Description

About California Miramar University California Miramar University is a DEAC-accredited, career-focused university serving a diverse community of domestic and international students through undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. As our university continues to grow, we are building a talented and collaborative team committed to helping students succeed. Team members have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students' academic journeys while developing their own skills, expanding their careers, and contributing to a supportive and student-centered community. The Student Success Advisor supports students from enrollment through graduation by monitoring academic progress, attendance, engagement, and other indicators of student success. This role serves as a primary point of contact for students, providing timely outreach, guidance, and follow-up to help address challenges, strengthen engagement, support retention, and promote timely program completion. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, and student-focused, with the ability to identify concerns early, communicate effectively with students and internal teams, and coordinate timely solutions to help students remain on track toward their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: Student Tracking, Monitoring, and Retention Track student academic progress, attendance, engagement, and completion milestones from enrollment through graduation. Identify early warning indicators and proactively intervene with students at risk of withdrawal or academic failure. Maintain an active caseload of students and develop individualized success and intervention plans as needed. Conduct consistent, documented outreach to disengaged or at-risk students, including same-day outreach where appropriate. Outreach Execution (Primary Input Metrics) Complete a high volume of outbound outreach calls to assigned students based on risk signals, missed engagement, or milestone triggers. Act quickly on risk triggers by initiating outreach within defined timelines (e.g., same-day or within 24 hours depending on severity). Use a structured cadence across phone, text, and email when students are hard to reach, and document each attempt clearly. Maintain clear daily/weekly activity targets for outreach and follow-ups, and meet or exceed those targets consistently. Student Advising and Issue Resolution (Primary Input Metrics) Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned students and guide them through program requirements and expectations. Resolve academic, attendance, financial, and administrative barriers quickly by coordinating across faculty, registrar, finance, and other internal departments. Own each case from identification through closure, ensuring timely handoffs, escalation when needed, and confirmation that the student's issue is fully resolved. Reduce "time-to-resolution" by prioritizing urgent student blockers and preventing cases from stalling. Student Support and Resource Coordination Maintain and utilize a comprehensive resource library addressing childcare, housing, transportation, food insecurity, and mental health support. Connect students with appropriate internal services and external community resources. Provide consistent, empathetic support to students facing complex or ongoing challenges. Engagement and Communication Build trust-based relationships with students through regular check-ins and relationship-driven outreach. Promote student engagement and persistence through structured communication and milestone-based touchpoints. Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure a coordinated and student-centered support experience. Systems, Documentation, and Reporting Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student interactions, outreach attempts, interventions, and outcomes in the SIS and CRM.
