A Career Counselor works with adults of all ages to plan career choices and access the education and training needed to support a career. Gives skills assessment and aptitude tests to clients. Provides job search assistance or training for general workplace skills. Provides referrals for workplace literacy, academic or job training programs, or direct job referrals.
ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES AND THE GRADUATION COACH POSITION
The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions. This position supports high school students in achieving on-time graduation and College and Career Readiness by monitoring student data, identifying students at risk, and tracking progress toward graduation and post-secondary goals. The role collaborates closely with counselors, teachers, administrators, students, and families to develop and implement targeted strategies, maintain accurate student records, and provide proactive support to help students stay on track. The position also monitors post-graduation outcomes and assists with state testing, professional development, and other student support initiatives as needed.

Virtual school staff are part of a pioneering effort. Our team, therefore, need to share the School's pioneering mission and approach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain student database related to College Career Readiness indicators as outlined in California State Dashboard indicators; collaborate to define and track lead measures to predict CCR competencies Utilize early warning indicators to identify high school students who are most likely at risk of not graduating in the cohort year Create a database of at-risk students and track individual and subpopulation progress toward graduation and College Career Readiness indicators Work closely with teachers, counselors and administrators to develop systematic strategies and initiatives to identify and support students, and collect data to determine effectiveness of strategies and initiatives Assist high school credit clerks, counselors, and Director of Accountability in the collection and data entry of transcripts, dual enrollment credits, AP exam scores, CHSPE records, and other documentation needed related to College Career Readiness and graduation Review grad plan to ensure path toward graduation, and bring any concerns to assigned guidance counselor Track assigned caseload students for one year post-graduation to monitor post-graduation activity (i.e. college enrollment, entrance into the work force, etc.); Communicate with all withdrawing high school students to ensure student is enrolled in school and planning to graduate, or connect with resources to prevent student from dropping out Communicate high expectations and shows an active interest in student's achievement, establish and maintain a positive rapport with families; communicate regularly with parents and students at risk of not graduating Disseminate necessary student information to GE teachers and/or guidance counselors Collaborate with peers to provide a positive experience for students Attend in-person and/or virtual training and professional development as needed to maintain a level of expertise in the field Proctor in person state testing as needed Other duties as assigned.
