Job Summary:
The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Outreach Associate is responsible for providing special assistance to low-income, first-generation students and/or students with a disability in order for them to succeed in their education plan. The TRiO SSS Outreach Associate is also responsible for providing direct academic and other support services to Otero SSS participants. This position will work closely with the TRiO Director and TRiO Advisor/Success Coaches in the day-to-day operations of the TRiO program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate structured tutoring activities with Otero academic support resources that will assist students with success in their educational program. Including scheduling tutoring sessions and developing tutoring content in different subject areas. 2. Assist students with various course work, study skills and test taking tips, as well as proofreading and formatting papers. 3. Monitor open labs and assist students with computer programs used at Otero (D2L, Navigate, Portal, etc.). While maintaining a clean and safe environment conducive to working on computers and learning. 4. Provide data collection of students receiving services and other office activities. 5. Maintain accurate, complete records, including all application materials, and submit data in the appropriate time frame and digital format in adherence with FERPA regulations. 6. Assist potential SSS students with application and application process and follow up as needed. 7. Performs routine clerical duties, including correspondence and provide input for project staff on data collection needs with Student Access and hardcopy file; Input, maintain, retrieve and assemble computerized data for project participants. 8. Assist in course planning, monitoring, student progress, values clarification, decision-making and goal setting. 9. Submit monthly time and effort reports. 10. Assist in communicating with TRiO students via the posted calendar, Social Media, emails, texts and digital signage. 11. Provide academic/career advising, needs assessment, and develop academic action plans. 12. Provide personal, academic, career, and financial advising. 13. Develop strategies to meet yearly participant numbers to maintain program guidelines 14. Attend and represent Otero at appropriate statewide meetings, conferences, or workshops for Student Support Services. 15. Maintains a current inventory of supplies. 16. Coordinate and take a group of TRiO SSS participants on cultural events and campus tours. 17. Develop and present workshops on study skills, scholarship, transfer information, and financial literacy, etc. 18. Maintain good communication with faculty, administrators, students and director. 19. Ability to work flexible hours on occasion during program events 20. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of an associate degree or certificate program
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to working with culturally diverse populations
  • Excellent written and oral communications
Valid Drivers License Preferred Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring, preferably in higher education.
  • One year experience as an administrative assistant, preferably in higher education
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to working with low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities who are academically under-prepared.
  • Experience with assessment of students needs and academic progress.
  • ESL experience
  • A background profile similar to that of the participants.
  • Educational philosophy in alignment with a small rural community college.
Selection Process:
Position will remain open until filled with a priority date of September 24, 2026 This position is grant-funded position with future employment contingent upon funding. This position is funded 100% by the Student Success (TRiO) Grant.
