  • Visually Impaired Associate Class B, 7 hrs./day, 176 days/yr.
  • Communication Coach (Hearing Impaired Program or Visually Impaired Program) Starting wage $14.
94/hr. or $15.34 with an associates degree or higher. Primary responsibilities include providing communication assists using braille to a student who is visually impaired to provide continuity across the child's learning environment. The support will include explaining, expanding and ensuring understanding and acting as a liaison between the general educational environment and the IEP team members. Will provide coaching and prompts regarding expectations and transitions for visual communication within the educational environment. Must be able to understand and implement the goals and objectives in an individual education plan (IEP). Must be able to assist in academic subjects using lesson plans and instructional strategies developed by teachers and other professional support staff. Will monitor comprehension of the student's behaviors which may include using environmental cues, answering questions appropriately, volunteering appropriate information, asking for clarification. Must be able to gather and maintain data about the performance and behavior of individual students and confer with special and general education teachers about student schedules, instructional goals, progress and performance. Must be able to operate computers and use assistive technology and adaptive equipment that will enable students with special needs to participate more fully in general education, as well as oversee daily maintenance and use of assistive devices.
