A Career Counselor works with adults of all ages to plan career choices and access the education and training needed to support a career. Gives skills assessment and aptitude tests to clients. Provides job search assistance or training for general workplace skills. Provides referrals for workplace literacy, academic or job training programs, or direct job referrals.
The Job Trainer is responsible for the training, supervision and provision of supports for persons with disabilities in order for them to achieve success in their goals for supported employment. The Job Trainer may work directly with individuals to help them recognize, learn and retain the specific requirements of a job, work-related activities and support services necessary to get and maintain employment. The Job Trainer may also provide assistance to the consumer as required or requested during on-the-job training programs with awareness and approval of the employer while in performance of duties at job sites.
Specific Responsibilities:
Assist, direct, and provide guidance on work related activities, such as time and attendance rules, dress code and personal hygiene requirements, and others as required. Maintain accurate records of training and job training provided to each consumer. Document and recommend to Director of Client Services recommendations to overcome identified barriers to employment.
Duties of Position:
Organization and Administration Monitor, document, and record consumers training programs. Comply with all organizational safety and health policies and procedures. Comply with all rules and regulations when on employer premises while in performance of job training duties. Maintain accurate and timely records on job training services provided Comply with all governmental and organizational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Maintain accurate and timely records for reimbursement for training services provided. Ensure timely completion of all forms, assessments, reports, and other documents as required or requested.
Duties of Position:
Training and Job Training Communicate openly with Director of Client Services and Employment Services Supervisor regarding consumer performance, behavior and other concerns. Complete all documentation and reports as requested in timely fashion. Track and document consumer's progress towards their goals and objectives.
Duties of Position:
General Report all incidents/accidents involving consumer within one day and document within 24 hours of incident or when first made aware of incident. Will maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid and be familiar with all HIPAA and Dept. of Labor regulations. Attend all scheduled meetings and training classes as requested or directed. Monitor, document and report consumer behaviors and adverse actions with immediate notification to Director of Client Services.
Employment Requirements:
Education:
Associate degree or high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months' relevant experience.
Age:
20 years of age or older
Specialized Experience:
Training experience or previous work experience with persons with disabilities preferred. Person providing direct support shall within 6 months of hire start date, complete at least 9.5 hours of employment service training. Required to complete 4 hours of continuing education in employment services annually. Certification as Medication Manager or able to obtain training and certification within 6 months of start date.
Schedule:
Must demonstrate the ability to work independently within a self-directed setting and when performing duties of job training at off site janitorial locations. Position requires availability during the normal working hours of Life Skills Training Center.
Background Investigation:
Must successfully complete Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation background record check, Iowa DHS Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Central Registry background check, and OIG Medicaid Exclusion Registry check. Other certifications, licenses, or skills: Ability to read, write and understand the English language sufficient to communicate with consumer, staff, and public. Ability to compare, compile, analyze, coordinate, and synthesize data and information. Must possess valid state issued Driver's license with Limited Chauffeurs Class "D" endorsement or obtain within 30 days of hire and meet insurance company's standard of insurability.
Relations to others:
Ability to supervise, negotiate, communicate, and instruct consumers and subordinates. Must possess strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to act independently and make decisions based on Life Skills Training Center's values and mission. Physical Demands (Strength): Heavy - exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to lift or move objects and carts. Physical Demands (Movement): Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering and handling, or with accommodations Physical Demand (Auditory & Visual): Talking, hearing, and sight sufficient to communicate with consumers and public, or with accommodations. Must be able to tolerate noisy environment or with accommodations.
Environmental Conditions:
Ability to tolerate seasonal weather changes. Must be able to work in hot and humid or cold and dry environment. Ability to work in restrictive training environment or with accommodations.
Equipment Used:
Must possess basic computer and keyboard skills. Equipment to include computers, cell phones, electronic tablets, telephones and other electronic media. Operate vehicles to include cars and vans. Other equipment as may be used at employer locations and as authorized during conduct of training provision to consumer.
