Job Description

This person will advise and assist students in scheduling and successfully completing all courses needed to graduate, maintain a professional rapport between students and peers and assist the college in achieving the maximum productivity from students and staff through an effective advising and retention program. This person will also provide general assistance to students in the navigation of academic and career goals.

Master's Degree preferred. Experience in dealing with the public, career counseling and/or academic advising, and experience in a college setting is preferred. Must relate well with students, faculty and administration. Must be understanding, available and helpful to students' needs in both academic and career. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time. Competency in Microsoft Office suite of software is required. Maintain current knowledge concerning transfer requirements and articulation requirements. Assist in planning and carrying out student related studies and surveys. Maintain office hours for student consultations. Conduct initial mandatory advising sessions; be available to students for following sessions as needed through graduation. Maintain accurate records of students and submit required reports including regular activity reports. Advise students on program change options and articulation potential. Advise students regarding add/drop/withdrawal processes and implications. Advise students on the graduation process. Generate student (in school) follow-up data as required by departments or enrollment services. Work with department faculty and program instructors in college retention efforts and student satisfactory academic progress efforts. Provide academic advisement for new and continuing college students, including those in transfer and technical degree and certificate programs. Make students aware of campus and community resources, including electronic student services. Provide information on study skills and other college success strategies. May serve students in assigned majors or categories. Provide career advisement, helping students make decisions on college majors and career opportunities. Refer students to print and web-based resources related to career information. Collaborate with college employees in career services and job placement. Collaborate as a team member on delivery of new student orientation, student retention initiatives, information nights, Student Success workshops. Collect data and participate in assessment of services. Create, report, and maintain student files. Use technology to enhance delivery of service to students. Assess student's skills, interests and previous academic and work experience for the purpose of placement in pathways for academic, career and employment projects. Work with students to develop academic and career plans and adjust such plans as needed. Connect students with useful college resources or outside support services such as access to child care, transportation, and tutorial assistance, as needed. Help students with adjustment to college life and refer students to community resources as necessary. Attend staff meetings and training sessions, and stay current in the profession. Participate on college committees as needed. Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work. Assist students in determining career paths through career counseling. Other duties as may be assigned.
