AMVETS Employment Veteran SpecialistFunction:
The Employment Veteran Specialist assists the Chief Veteran Employment Officer in the effective and timely placement of veterans, in the temporary to permanent full-time position. This is accomplished through the administration and coordination of assigned projects and functions in support of the AMVETS Career Centers, funded by the Call of Duty Endowment and AMVETS Corporate partnerships.
Organizational Relationship:
The Employment Veteran Specialist reports directly to the Chief Veteran Employment Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to the following: Work with veterans in assigned region to assist them in their job search by working on: resumes, mock interviews, reaching out to employers, general job search, etc. Participate in bi-weekly orientation, in order to identifying and reducing employment barriers; Meet individually and in small groups with veterans to create and guide participants through the development of employment support plan, reinforce curriculum concepts, and identify short and long-term goals; Coordinate supports that will assist the participant with ongoing attendance and participation in program activities, assessing needs through case management principles and making referrals to community resources as appropriate; Meet regularly with veterans to reinforce the use of skills learned in orientation activities through ongoing coaching sessions during the education and training phase of program participation, as well as during and after the transition to employment; Meet with Career Center Specialist and member of the outreach team to match participants with employment opportunities and resources; Assist with identifying professionals to participate in industry specific interview panels; Assist with identifying community providers to participate in resource fairs; Learn the Internet-based reporting system, all veteran and employer data are tracked; Participate in weekly conference calls, along with the Career Center Team Leaders, led by the National Chief Veteran Employment Officer for the purpose of sharing Best Practices; Attend regional job fairs to help promote the Career Center Program to veterans and employers; Research educational and general resources that will help veterans find employment; Travel to participate in training sessions and other events as needed
Additional Responsibilities:
Answers all incoming Career Center Calls referred from switchboard. Keeping organized interview clothing for veterans Other duties as assigned in support of the Programs Office.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Bilingual Preferred. Associates degree or equivalent work experience to include administrative functions and/or human resources management. Military experience and not for profit background a plus. Must be exceptionally proficient in verbal and written communications. Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word. Ability to effectively communicate and work with various age and ethnic groups.
Environmental Demands:
Most work is completed on a computer. There will be occasional lifting of boxes of literature, program supplies and audio-visual equipment.
Travel:
Some travel, 15% of time.
