August 25, 2026 Position Summary The College and Career Counselor supports students in developing and achieving their postsecondary goals by providing comprehensive college, career, and workforce readiness counseling. The counselor works collaboratively with students, families, staff, higher education institutions, business partners, and community organizations to ensure students are prepared for success after graduation. Essential Responsibilities College Readiness and Planning Guide students through the college search, application, and enrollment process. Assist students and families with financial aid, FAFSA completion, scholarships, and college affordability planning. Coordinate college visits, college fairs, and postsecondary information sessions. Support students in selecting rigorous coursework aligned with college and career goals. Career Development Facilitate career exploration activities and assessments. Assist students in developing individualized educational and career plans. Coordinate job shadowing, internships, work-based learning opportunities, and career-focused experiences. Build partnerships with local businesses, trade organizations, and community agencies. Student Support Provide individual and group counseling related to career and postsecondary planning. Monitor student progress toward graduation and postsecondary readiness benchmarks. Support students in identifying pathways that align with their interests, strengths, and future goals. Program Coordination Lead implementation of college and career readiness initiatives. Maintain accurate records and data related to student participation and postsecondary outcomes. Analyze program effectiveness and recommend improvements. Collaborate with counselors, teachers, administrators, and community stakeholders to enhance programming. Communication and Outreach Conduct workshops and presentations for students and families. Communicate regularly regarding postsecondary opportunities, deadlines, and resources. Promote equitable access to college and career opportunities for all students. Qualifications Valid Michigan School Counselor License, Michigan Teaching Certificate with School Counselor Endorsement, or other credential required by state regulations. Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Educational Leadership, or related field. Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid systems, and career development practices. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and families. Experience in secondary school counseling preferred. Experience coordinating college and career readiness programs preferred. Knowledge of dual enrollment, career and technical education (CTE), early college, and workforce development initiatives. Experience using student information and college/career planning platforms. Student-centered and equity-focused. Collaborative team member. Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities. Skilled in developing partnerships with colleges, universities, businesses, and community organizations. Commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth to improve student outcomes.
