Delta College, serving as the region's leader in workforce training, has Career Navigators placed at the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! offices. The Career Navigator serves as the first point of contact for job seekers by greeting and assisting them as they enter the Michigan Works! Service Center. The expectation of this position is to deliver exceptional customer service while assessing the job seekers' needs and providing information about available resources. The Career Navigator must be knowledgeable in all Michigan Works! programs and services and will be responsible for recruitment and program referrals. Additionally, the Career Navigator must be familiar with community resources and community partners located within the Michigan Works! Service Centers. The Career Navigator works in a team-oriented environment to assess individual needs, provide responsive guidance, and conduct a soft handoff to Employment Service Advisors for further support. This role will be assigned to work from a Michigan Works! Service Center in Bay, Midland, or Saginaw County. This is a grant-funded position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Orient job seekers to the Michigan Works! system, programs, services, opportunities, and Service Center facilities. Build rapport with job seekers to identify employment barriers and tailor service delivery to individual needs. Understand the scope of Michigan Works! and partner agency programs to effectively assist job seekers in utilizing available services. Actively recruit and refer job seekers who may benefit from Michigan Works! services, including career coaching, training services, workshops, Academic Center services, staff-assisted core services, and job fairs. Assess needs for rehabilitation, financial aid, adult education, post-secondary education, additional vocational training, and other assistance, and make appropriate referrals to community partners, Veteran Services, supportive services, and appropriate State of Michigan agencies. Provide information regarding services available through the one-stop delivery system. Assist job seekers with creating or accessing accounts and posting resumes on the State of Michigan's designated labor exchange system. Assist job seekers in developing appropriate job-search documents using available formats and software tools. Assist in developing displays and exhibits highlighting career and employment opportunities. Ensure confidential information relating to the agency, staff, and customers is appropriately used and maintained. Maintain compliance with unemployment requirements, verify job seeker identity, and enter required data in a timely manner. Provide meaningful assistance navigating the unemployment website. Provide preliminary recommendations regarding unemployment training waivers in accordance with eligibility guidelines. Refer employer inquiries to the appropriate Business Services Representative and support the Business Services Team with employer hiring and informational events. Maintain current knowledge of the Employment Services complaint system, assist job seekers with resources and follow-up, and submit related reports as required. Deliver reemployment services and eligibility assessments to improve employment outcomes for unemployment claimants in compliance with state policy and unemployment requirements. Enter and maintain job seeker information, program referrals, activities, and case notes in the Management Information System within established timelines. Provide labor market information for the Great Lakes Bay Region and assist with career exploration activities. Demonstrate exceptional customer service and oral communication skills while providing clear, concise information to job seekers. Coordinate with the Employment Services Manager for interpreter/translator services and services related to H-2A and H-2B. Maintain updated knowledge of the Federal Bonding Program and assist with completing the process to obtain a bond. Assist multiple job seekers throughout the day while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and timely follow-through. Assist job seekers with printing, faxing, and copying job-search and unemployment-related materials. Participate in agency events as needed. Implement and/or support special programs and initiatives. Comply with all sections of the Employment Services Manual, regulations, and updates. Engage in staff development opportunities through written materials, seminars, conferences, in-services, and other assigned activities. Required Qualifications Associate's Degree. Special consideration will be given to applicants with direct experience in the Career Navigator position with Michigan Works! Evidence of intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Exceptional customer service and oral communication skills. Additional Experience Considered Bachelor's Degree. One or more years of experience working in workforce development, customer service, human services, or a professional office setting. Application Deadline Position will remain open until filled.
