PositionSummary :
MethodistUniversity is seeking to hire a Learning Specialist for its new School ofMedicine inFayetteville, NC. The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley HealthSchool of Medicine (MU CFVH) is North Carolina's newest accreditedmedicalschool by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The start date forthe charter class is July 2026. Ourmission is toprepare our graduates to be socially accountable,community-engaged, evidence-based, compassionate, and equity-focused physicianleaders whowill contribute to mitigating health disparities and improving healthoutcomes in southeastern North Carolina or wherever they may practice. The Learning Specialist providesexpertise in the evaluation of students requesting academic assistance inaddition to studentsexperiencing academic difficulties as measured on courseexaminations and clinical performance evaluations. The Learning Specialist willalso provide individualized academic coaching to medical students, includingareas such as time management, test-taking strategies,knowledge organization,and academic remediation.
KeyResponsibilities:
Assists with implementingintegrated planscomprising targeted programs and services designed to provide individualizedstructured assistance for students withacademic challenges. The plans areproactive, sustained, and implemented to enhance student success and developindependent, self-motivatedlearners Assists withimplementing data-driven programs and services to meet the unique needs ofacademically challenged studentswith the goal of increasing retention andgraduation Assists withorganizing and facilitating peer-led learning groups Workscollaboratively with Lead Learning Specialist to monitor student progress and provideinterventional support Assistwith delivering group presentations and workshops on topics such as clinical reasoning, cognitive learning strategies, and preparation forUSMLE Step exams Assist with coordinating and managing peer tutoring programs, including tutor recruitment, training, andscheduling. Schedule and monitor the use of academic services and resources, including tutoring and suggestions for data-driveninterventions. Works with faculty and course directors for bestpractices to improve student outcomes Ensures compliance with federal, state, college, and other outside agency rules and regulations Maintain detailed records ofstudent progress and uphold confidentiality in compliance with FERPA guidelines Assists in developingCAPE resources anddocumentation creation, data collection, data entry used forquality improvement and research Performs otherrelated duties asassigned by the
Lead Learning Specialist Qualifications :
Education:
Master's degree inhigher education, counseling, public health, or a related field required.
Experience:
Minimum 2years of experience in academic support, preferably in medical or health science education. Experience in evaluation andproviding learningassistance, performance improvement as well as study skills and time managementprogramming. Stronginterpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Familiarity with learningand data management systems for student progress tracking. Experience in working with diverse student populations, includingunderrepresented and/or disadvantaged students.
