POSITION TITLE
Middle and High School AIG Specialist
REPORTS TO
Principals/Division of College and Career Readiness

NATURE OF WORK
A middle and/or high school AIG Specialist collaborates with teachers to provide rigor and challenge in the classroom through curriculum planning and co-teaching, and enriches opportunities for students inside and outside of school including through service learning projects. The Specialist advocates for understanding of the unique social and emotional needs of gifted students and provides individual support for students struggling with schoolwork, stress, perfectionism, underachieving, etc. A wide variety of tasks are performed as a teacher leader on each campus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Effectively communicate with AIG stakeholders. Knowledge and understanding of the Onslow County School Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) plan including identification processes. Knowledge and understanding of gifted students needs. Knowledge of or willingness to learn gifted testing administration. Ability to develop and lead professional development related to gifted education. Ability to collaborate with guidance counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, and students in order to identify and serve gifted students. Review student transcripts to ensure students are taking appropriate courses. Meet with students to develop educational plans reflective of areas of identification. Knowledge of the PLAN and ACT exams. Knowledge of the PSAT and AP exams including the AP Potential Report. Assist in the monitoring and development of the Onslow County Schools AIG Strategic Plan. Assist with organizing and expanding enrichment opportunities for middle and high school students. Planning and conducting regular meetings with middle and high school-based AIG contacts. Other duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
North Carolina Teacher license required AIG license required Experience teaching middle and/or high school preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time. Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely. Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push and pull. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds routinely and 30 pounds occasionally. Must be able to visually and auditorily effectively communicate with staff and students. Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills. Must be able to drive to variety of school sites.
