Job Description
Summary To serve students in area high schools by cultivating programs and services for the high school learner that will assist in determining career goals and in identifying community college programs that will enable them to achieve these goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The duties of this position will include but are not limited to the following activities: Work with high school administration and faculty to promote on site Career Planning services including student assemblies, special high school events, parent meetings, workshops, class presentations, etc. Work one-on-one with students in the development of a career assessment and in the establishment of career goals; Stay current on local workforce data and trends including career options and educational requirements; Work with students to identify and connect to community college programs that support students' individual career goals; Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways Work with high school/college personnel to prepare information related to career pathways for distribution to students and parents Maintain contact with select advisees using a proactive advising model Maintain adequate and accurate records on students Assist with academic/career advising for high school learners and serve as an integral part of advising functions at the high schools Provide appropriate referrals to resources to address issues of concern beyond the scope of this position Provide information to college personnel regarding course needs for high school students Provide supportive interventions to help students succeed in high school/college courses; provide academic success strategies to facilitate successful transition into college environment Assist in communicating policy and procedure information to students and parents Coordinate with the Director of CCP to be a part of regional information session and other planned events; Other duties as determined. Supervisory Responsibilities This person in this position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge in aspects of the student experience to include: coaching, mentoring, academic/career advising, student/career services and progression.
Education:
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.Preferred:
Master's degree from an accredited institution.Experience Minimum:
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in either a public school or community college setting working with students in educational planning.Experience Preferred:
None Language Skills Effective written and verbal communications skills as required. Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting; plan, organize, and implement programs and services Mathematical Skills Ability to perform basic math computations as required. Reasoning Ability Ability to use effective critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills. A commitment to the learning/student-centered environments. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in a Windows environment and have knowledge of email systems, PowerPoint, Blackboard and online lab environments. A working knowledge of Datatel/Colleague is preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
