Job Description Summary:
The Career Development Graduate Assistant in the University Career Center is for graduate students interested in supporting Villanova students with their career and professional development needs. This role is geared towards graduate students pursuing a Master's Degree in Counseling, Human Resources, or Higher Education, though we encourage all applicants with relevant experience and interests to . This graduate student position is a paid role consisting of approximately 20 hours per week for the academic year. Successful graduate assistants are those who have strong coaching/interpersonal skills, an ability to work independently and take initiative, an interest in career and professional development, and a passion for helping others. The Graduate Assistant will be involved with all aspects of the office, with a strong emphasis on student appointments. The Graduate Assistant will enhance their competencies in advising and presentation skills, awareness of the career development process, and knowledge of higher education administration, career planning and the recruiting field. Personal counseling or long-term therapy is not a component of this experience. Duties include (training will be provided): Meet with undergraduate students and recent alumni in one-on-one career and professional development-related appointments. Advise and coach students and recent alumni on resume/cover letter building, job search strategies, professional readiness, career decision making, and interview preparation. Assist in training and supporting undergraduate Career Center Ambassadors (CCAs); coordinate the shadowing schedule and onboarding activities, provide feedback to enhance CCA knowledge and confidence, and co-facilitate check-in meetings and training. Conduct skill-building workshops and presentations on topics such as resume writing, interviewing, and LinkedIn. Develop strong working knowledge of Handshake career management system, Career Connections, and other Career Center resources. Curate content for Career Connections website and assist counselors with special projects. Other potential duties: Aid in execution of career fairs, employer events, and additional Career Center programming and events. Assist with on-campus recruiting, operations activities, and marketing campaigns as needed. •This position description outlines the general nature and level of work assigned to individuals who function in this job. This description is not exhaustive; other responsibilities may be discussed/assigned. The Career Center is a dynamic office providing career development assistance to undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni. We also offer a comprehensive suite of services for employers who recruit at Villanova University. Over 2000 students make appointments with career counselors during the academic year. 300+ employers recruit students on campus from September to April and the office hosts or co-hosts various career programs throughout the year. The staff consists of 20 professionals and a team of undergraduate Career Center Ambassadors.
Requirements:
Must be a Villanova University graduate student enrolled in a Master's Degree in Counseling, Human Resources, or Higher Education or have relevant experience in career/student advising.
