Job Description

Position Title:
Manager, Career Advising ‌

Role:
Manage and lead career development services and programs to NKU students. Supervise career advising staff and work collaboratively with colleges, academic departments, employers, alumni, and Norse Network Hub staff. Responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance student career readiness and experiential learning participation. ‌ Provide leadership, supervision, and coaching for Career Advising staff, ensuring high-quality and consistent career development services is provided. Provide individual and group career advising services, including career exploration, career decision-making, internship and co-op preparation, graduate school planning, job search strategies, and professional development. Working with career advisers, prepare students for and assist in planning and execution of career fairs, employer recruiting events, networking programs, and workforce development initiatives. Collaborate with colleges, faculty, and academic departments to embed career readiness and professional development into the student experience. Partner with faculty and staff throughout the colleges, the Director of Outreach, Partnerships Manager, and other NNH staff to expand internship, co-op, job shadowing, project-based learning, and experiential learning opportunities. Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, classroom instruction, and career-related and professionalism programming across campus. Oversee career development platforms including Handshake and other career technology systems. Increase student engagement, career readiness, experiential learning participation, and post-graduation outcomes. Analyze student engagement, placement, internship, and employment data to identify trends and improve program effectiveness. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of career development theories, career counseling principles, experiential learning models and career readiness competencies. Knowledge of workforce trends, employer recruiting practices, and labor market information. Ability to supervise, coach, motivate, and evaluate professional staff. Strong presentation, facilitation, and public speaking skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with students, faculty, employers, alumni, and community partners. Ability to analyze data, assess program effectiveness, and develop recommendations for improvement. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple academic and administrative units. Proficiency with career management systems, such as Handshake, CRM platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and data reporting tools. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive information
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Human Resources, Business, Student Affairs, Communication, Education, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in career services, student success, workforce development, talent acquisition, higher education, or a related field.
  • Experience advising, coaching, or mentoring students, job seekers, or professionals.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations, workshops, or training programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Affairs, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of professional experience in career services, workforce development, employer relations, or student success.
  • Supervisory experience managing professional staff.
  • Experience with career management platforms such as Handshake and Team Dynamix
  • Experience utilizing career assessments and career development tools.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting student outcome or engagement data.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, computer use, and verbal communication. Must be able to occasionally move materials weighing up to 20 pounds and travel across campus for meetings, presentations, career fairs, and events. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
