Job Description

The Career Specialist at Stark State College delivers comprehensive career development support to students, prospective students, alumni, and community members, helping them explore, prepare for, and achieve their career goals. This role also builds and maintains strong relationships with employers to support recruiting efforts, stay informed on current hiring trends, and expand internship, apprenticeship, and employment opportunities aligned with academic programs.
Typical Hours of Work:
Typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Some evening hours are required, more specifically, the person in this position will need to be available to work at least one evening until 6:30 p.m. per month.

Stark State (North Canton, Ohio) and Stark State (Akron)
Pay:
$43,479 to $56,524, commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt, contract role, scheduled at 250 days annually. You'll be a

Typical Responsibilities Include:
Provide one-on-one career advising to support student planning, decision-making, and workplace readiness Assist students with job search preparation, including resumes, cover letters, and interview skills Guide career exploration using assessments to help students choose majors and career pathways Support students in securing internships, apprenticeships, work-based learning, and employment opportunities Facilitate workshops, classroom sessions, and presentations on career readiness topics Identify and address employment barriers, connecting students with appropriate resources and services Plan and execute career events, including job fairs, workshops, and employer engagement activities Develop and maintain relationships with employers to expand recruiting and hiring opportunities Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to integrate career readiness and support student success Manage career services operations, including data tracking, reporting, resource development, and use of systems like Handshake Participate in campus initiatives, committees, and outreach efforts while supporting overall Career Services operations Please note: In order to best serve our students, our Career Specialist position(s) are required to work 10 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. a minimum of one night a week.
