Job Description

Hourly Rate $21.23 This is a Part-Time Staff Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. Requires the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES®) in order to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility of requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources. Please refer to the NACES® website for further information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
This position maintains program support for STRIVE students in the classroom and particularly on job sites.
The responsibilities include:
helping students at their developmental level to get the support and skills needed to succeed in this college program; completing all program courses, attending job training sites, and ultimately obtaining employment. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with program Director to provide support services to support students' educational persistence and success. Provides information to students about vocational, career and/or educational pathways. Assist a diverse population of students with disabilities and collaborate with the Alvin College Office of Disability Services to ensure that all students' needs and accommodations are being met. Establishes positive and trusting relationships with students. Attend department and division meetings. Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral. Fosters student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and effective use of resources. Assist students with career research and planning. Cultivate partnerships with current and potential employers. Completes vocational assessments to assist in determining student success. Supports and assists the planning and carry-out of student classroom job preparation, vocational training sites on and off campus. Assists program Director with other support functions as assigned. Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions and department personnel. Adhere to Alvin College's policies and procedures. Attend institutional meetings as required. Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. This position requires occasional off-campus work at job sites, which may include outdoor environments. The employee must be able to work outdoors for extended periods (up to 3-4 hours at a time) in varying weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be able to pass background check with fingerprinting Valid Texas driver's license 1-2 years prior working experience assisting individuals with a disability
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Effective communication is required with staff and students. The ability to make quick and accurate judgments regarding the health and safety, emotional and physical needs of students. Must be able to physically and mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree from an accredited institution. 3+ years' experience assisting individuals with a disability. Previous experience working with individuals with a disability in an educational environment. Bilingual - English/Spanish
