Job Description
Grant Position running 10/01/2021-09/30/2026 At Amarillo College, our mission is: Transforming our community and economy through learning, innovation, and achievement. Every team member, regardless of job title or duties, is responsible first and foremost, for assisting students in every way. This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Career Navigator - HSI STEM who will be all-in on our mission and who will lead infusion of work-based learning in AC's career and advising student services. •This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.
EDUCATION
:Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Student Services, Business, Education, a teaching field currently offered by the college, or a closely related area.Preferred:
Master's Degree.EXPERIENCE
:Required:
Two (2) years of experience in student services, advising, and experience using Watermark.Preferred:
Experience in adult education, academic advising, or related careers in post-secondary education. Experience in facilitation training and workshops. Collaborate with project staff, AC faculty/staff, and industry partners to develop and pilot the work-based learning system. Lead infusion of the new work-based learning system in AC's advising and career services. Oversee and support student engagement with the new work-based learning system. Lead/coordinate student services staff training in support of the new work-based learning system. Assist with project evaluation. Develop recruitment and marketing materials for integrated career pathway programs. Coordinate and implement outreach and recruitment strategies for integrated career pathway programs. Expand the network of campus and community providers. Expand the network of employers and business organizations in targeted career pathway sectors. Establish positive and trusting relationships with students. Coordinate and/or provide supportive services to support academic persistence and success. Identify potential sources of financial aid and in-kind support to underwrite enrollment into the college. Provide information on targeted career and educational pathways. Assist students with employment search, internships or job placement, and career research and planning. Monitor student progress and meet with students regarding academic progress. Present and/or coordinate workshops on a variety of topics that supplement and support the instructional curriculum. Track student attendance, behavior, and progress. Communicate regularly with key staff at community partner organizations and work collaboratively to develop and strengthen student support network, referrals and recruitment pipeline. Attend academic advising training, department and division meetings. Maintain a system for tracking students along career and education pathway. Perform other work-related duties as required. Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the public. Strong communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Must have skills in computer operation, multimedia classroom instructional software, and be willing to learn new computer software. Must be able to work with nontraditional students and students with disabilities. Ability to work under stress, work independently and as a team member, and deal with students in a professional manner. Ability to work collaboratively with staff. Ability to work independently as well as with team members. Ability to organize, prioritize, and work with minimal supervision. Ability to understand and embrace cross-cultural differences. Ability to communicate both written and verbally.Salary:
Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position. Pay grade 11 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.Working Conditions:
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.).Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications.
