Primary Purpose:
Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to school assigned, including advising students. Provide a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree Valid teacher certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of advisory procedures, student appraisal, and career development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of career and occupational resources, trends, and opportunities. Knowledge college entrance requirements and procedures. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience:
Teaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Guidance Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students. Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum. Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness. Advise individuals and small groups. Consultation Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students. Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students. Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services. Assessment Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program. Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately. Program Management Plan advisory programs to ensure that they meet identified needs. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of advisory program and make changes based on findings. Provide career and college entrance information and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselors; coordinate day-to-day operations and schedule activities, programs and speakers. Prepare career education and instructional materials for use by teachers and students; assist students in locating and using college/career information as needed for research, assignments and post-high school planning. Policy, Reports, and Law Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents. Professional Growth and Other Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
