Job Description

The Secondary Transition Program (STP) supports student interns with disabilities, between 18-21 years of age. The goal is to build student potential while providing specialized, short-term, on-the-job support and training to be successful in the adult community. The Transition Coach provides support to student interns in multiple environments, including classroom, internship site and community settings. Individual supports may include CTE Work Based Learning internships, individual IEP goals, mobility, functional daily life (safety and hygiene), academic skills, goal setting, adult agency linkages, vocational portfolio preparation, and increasing independent employment opportunities.

on the Paraeducator Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school.

Support classroom and community instruction. Prepare task analysis of internship site duties and job functions; create data sheets and visual structures necessary for each internship. Provide systemic training of job duties and model appropriate work-related behaviors directly with student interns. Initiate, identify, and adjust training as needed to ensure student intern success and growth in the classroom, on the job site and in accessing transportation. Communicate weekly with the Special Education/CTE instructor, and conduct appropriate follow-up with student training and employment support. Collect and report student intern performance data in a timely manner. Participate as a contributing member of a collaborative team through sharing ideas to improve instructional practice and presenting student intern performance data. Supervise student interns at the worksite. Assist student interns with physical and personal care needs; i.e., hygiene and attire, as needed. Maintain a safe and positive experience, for a diverse group of students, in all environments, through observation, proximity and proficient communication. Develop and support partnerships with community employers by relating well with diverse audiences in all student, staff, and public populations. Other related duties as assigned. Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed. Must provide high school diploma (or equivalent) AND 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, OR pass an academically rigorous assessment. Minimum three years of successful working experience, job coach or paraeducator experience preferred. Experience working with student who have developmental, physical, or behavior disabilities, ages 14 and older. Basic computer skills required, or ability to learn Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain organized records with attention to detail. Communicate effectively in oral and written format with a diverse group of teachers, student interns, parents, administrators, and employers in a confidential manner. Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical student behaviors. Physically capable to perform daily job duties, and routines, which may include kneeling, bending, lifting, and walking (in classroom, with students to and from work sites and community settings) and outdoor elements. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Have own reliable transportation to travel between schools and work sites. (Mileage will be reimbursed for on-the-job travel.) Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
