NATURE OF WORK
The PRSS serves as a personal guide, mentor, and role model in clients recovery process while assisting clients with navigation to helpful recovery resources. The PRSS is a liaison and advocate to professional and community supports and resources for clients. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will also assist clients to develop, maintain, and monitor their individual Wellness Recovery Plans. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist's duties include providing outreach, support, and recovery check-ups in the community for individuals with substance use disorders and their families while under supervision of the Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Work actively with a minimum of 20 clients. Provide mentoring through life experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems. Meet face to face with the individual and identified supports and/or by secured video conference at a frequency and format requested and agreed upon by the individual. The meetings can occur in a facility or in the community. Develop Recovery Wellness Plans with clients and monitor those wellness plans with them scheduled and unscheduled during meetings as identified above. Work with Supervisor to ensure these Plans are entered into the Electronic Medical Record. Link (and document) clients to available resources including continuing education/professional development, safe housing, recovery supports, self-help groups, medical/health facilities, and substance abuse and/or mental health services. Assist client in advocating and communication with their identified formal and informal supports including their referral source, family members, client's sponsor, treatment provider, and faith-based support. Obtain Release of Information (ROIs) as needed to comply with Client Rights and HIPAA Confidentiality. Maintain working relationships with staff of Valley's programs and other agencies or institutions to provide awareness of recovery as a reality and the availability of Peer Recovery Support Specialists. Receive on-going supervision and training to provide Peer Recovery Support Specialist services to the highest degree to the benefit of the community and individuals served. Prepare and maintain all required documentation and reports of weekly activity which includes number of contacts, method of contact, number of Recovery Wellness Plans initiated and monitored, number of referrals and outcomes, number of referrals and status of those requests, and number of agency contacts and content of those contacts. Assist consumers in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, or other problems. Provide outreach and early intervention to individuals in the early onset/stage of recovery or remission as well as those experiencing symptoms of relapse. Provide support by assisting consumers in identifying and resolving problems and making effective use of resources. Adhere to deadlines of Electronic Medical Record documentation submission for accuracy and compliance. Adhere to Valley's standards of conduct and compliance. Serve on committees as assigned. Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings as required. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to perform Essential Duties as outlined below: High school diploma or equivalent. 2 years of personal recovery experience. SUD Peer Certified through the WVCBAPP. Knowledge of treatment resources including a working knowledge of the 12-step fellowships. Previous experience working with consumers with substance use disorders. Ability to comply with all of Valley's policies and procedures. Ability to comply with Client's Rights. Ability to comply with Valley's and division/departmental safety procedures. Ability to read, write, understand, and speak the English language. Valid Driver's License and ability to legally transport clients. Current CPR/First-Aid certificate or ability to be trained. Possesses basic computer skills. Ability to use e-mail and document client services into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification in Addiction Counseling. SUD and Mental Health certifications through the WVCBAPP.
