Job Description

About us "Quality Family Services - Providing comprehensive services for foster youth and mental health services for youth, families, and community." Program Overview Based in Fresno, California, Quality Family Services (Quality) provides 24-hour, 7-day a week, direct care and supervision of adolescents, ages 12 to 17, and nonminor dependents, living in our Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) facilities (homes). Each home has up to 6 clients each and are located in residential neighborhoods throughout the greater Fresno area. Quality is a non-profit organization that has been providing services to underserved populations in California for over 40 years. Each of our STRTP facilities are licensed by the California Department of Social Services and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International. Minimum and/or Desired Qualifications and Experience Direct Care staff shall meet one of the following criteria: 1. A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree. 2. A valid Child Development Teaching Permit. 3. Completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth. 4. A valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth. 5. A valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by the department. 6. Previously been employed as a full time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year. 7. Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department. This position also requires an individual to be at least 21 years of age with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in a children's residential setting; Skills and abilities to engage and develop a rapport with children who have various backgrounds; Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions; and Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative manner Sample Responsibilities and/or Duties On a daily basis, Direct Care staff are to: 1. Supervise, protect, and care for clients individually and/or in groups throughout each shift. 2. Assist each client in working individually and/or within a group. Facilitate helping clients handle their problems by using techniques identified in their individual safety plans. 3. Administer positive discipline and setting of limits for behavior that are consistent with trauma-informed care standards. 4. Know and assist each client in achieving their individualized Treatment Plan goals. 5. At every shift, document each client's progress in their daily client log ; identify of the possible need for additional professional services and communicate such findings to the Manager on duty and the client(s)' clinician(s) during the weekly STRTP client case review meetings, when appropriate. 6. Provide clients' access to core services and supports, daily activities, and emotional and social supports, as necessary. 7. Perform household duties directed toward developing clients' self-help skills. Household duties may be performed by the client(s) or in partnership with the client(s). Client participation in these duties shall be voluntary and specified in their individualized Needs and Service Plan. No household duties shall go undone because a client refuses to participate. 8. Report to the Manager and make recommendations to address identified problems. Required forms of communications to Manager are verbal, handwritten, and/or by typing into an Electronic Medical Record database to update the client's confidential information. 9. Perform any other duties that may be necessary to ensure the health and safety of clients and staff. 10. Understand and implement Quality's policies and procedures.' '
