Job Description

Job Summary:
Resident Advisor (RA)
Reports To:
Supervisor Schedule:
24/7 coverage (includes awake shifts, weekends, and holidays) The Resident Advisor provides support, general supervision of day-to-day functioning of residential clients. Supported by the clinical team, the RA maintains a safe, healthy, and trauma-informed environment while positively representing the agency.
Major Duties & Responsibilities Resident Support & Supervision:
Assist residents with daily living activities (meal planning/cooking, hygiene, housekeeping), implement individual treatment and crisis plans, and support educational, vocational, and recreational goals.
Medical & Medication Management:
Administer medications under DCF guidelines and provide access to medical care (first aid, appointment scheduling, and emergency transport).
Milieu Safety:
Maintain a safe, structured, and harm-free environment using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) practices. Monitor behavior, resolve conflicts, prevent aggressive actions, and report risky behaviors or unauthorized visitors.
Transportation:
Drive residents to school, appointments, recreational activities, and public transit terminals.
Communication & Documentation:
Lead resident discussion groups, complete accurate daily/monthly reports and incident paperwork per PNMI standards, and attend weekly staff meetings/trainings.
Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience:
Associate's degree in a human service field and experience working with behaviorally challenged, at-risk adolescents.
Knowledge Base:
Familiarity with Trauma Theory, Female Development, female-responsive principles, Risking Connections, and relational strength-based care.
Skills:
Strong communication, teamwork, and proficiency with Microsoft 365, web platforms, and Adobe PDF.
Transportation:
Valid driver's license, a safe/roadworthy vehicle, and proof of suitable automobile insurance.
Background Checks:
Must pass national (fingerprint), state police, CT DCF protective services, and motor vehicle background checks (including out-of-state checks if resident in the last 5 years), plus provide proof of a physical and negative PPD test. Required Certifications (Upon hire or shortly thereafter) DCF Medication Administration CPR & First Aid Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
