Job Function :
To provide a safe, nurturing and structured environment for infants/toddlers or preschool aged children enrolled in the programs at Early Education and Care, Inc. during extended care hours. The worker will implement age-appropriate activities, foster comprehensive child development, manage transitions to and from the regular school day and maintain open communication with teachers and families .
Specific Job Duties :
Actively supervise children at all times during indoor and outdoor activities and during transitions. Establish a "culture of safety" by proactively identifying and reporting maintenance issues immediately. Count children regularly using roster-based check-ins/outs. Apply positive guidance and behavioral redirection strategies. Provide support for each child. Assist children with personal care routines, including hand washing, toileting and potty training. Clean and sanitize high touch interactive areas, toys and tables throughout the shift. Facilitate snack time to model healthy eating habits and encourage family style interaction. Adhere strictly to child allergy logs and special dietary restrictions. Facilitate child-initiated play and age-appropriate recreational activities. Support school readiness goals through arts, crafts and interactive music & movement. Greet parents warmly and treat them with respect. Ensure children are properly signed in and out by their approved, accompanying adult. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information about families, children and staff. Abide by the policies and procedures set forth by the EEC's Board of Directors.
Limits of Authority :
Act under the supervision of the Center Director and assume any duties and responsibilities as delegated.
Education & Experience :
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED equivalent. Previous childcare experience preferred but not required. Must pass a Level 2 Federal and State Criminal Background Screening through the Florida DCF Clearinghouse and a pre-employment drug screening. Employee must enroll (within the first 90 days of employment) in the DCF 45-clock hour Introductory Child Care Training Course and complete, as evidenced by passage of a competency examination, within 6 months of hire date. Employee must complete fire extinguisher training and Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome training within 30 days of hire date. Employee must complete the 4-hour Health and Nutrition course as well as the 5-hour Safety Practices training before entering a classroom. Employee must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification from an approved agency.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
Demonstrated ability to interact positively with children, parents and co-workers. Ability to work with families and children of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
Work Environment, Physical and Mental Abilities :
Must submit TB tine screener or test (if needed) on 1 st day of employment as well as a employee physical within one week of employment; re-screens will be required periodically. Sound mental and physical health. The work environment is representative of the needs that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is typically performed in a classroom setting. The noise level is usually moderate to high. Must be willing to work outside in typical Florida climate conditions during scheduled playground time. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, talk, read, write, hear and lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust and focus.
Personal Attributes :
Must meet all requirements as mandated by local licensing authority and Head Start Performance Standards. Must be neat, well-groomed and represent EEC as a professional at all times.
