TRAINING COUNSELOR JOB TITLE
TRAINING
COUNSELOR DEFINITION
This is a full-time Union position under the administration of the Shift Supervisor, the Resident Service Director, Assistant Resident Services Director and the Administrator. This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purpose of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The primary purpose of your job position is to provide care, training and assistance to residents in the form of implementing Individual Program Plans.
EQUIPMENT
The employee will operate and maintain Hoyer lifts, wheelchairs, gait belts, and facility vehicles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities that you, as a training counselor, will be required to perform. Even though this job description is broad, every effort has been made to make this outline as complete as possible. As a DSP (direst support person), you directly answer to the Shift Supervisor. We must emphasize that you may be required to perform other related duties and activities as assigned. Attend daily shift meetings and receive case load assignments for the day. Employee will drive facility vehicles to accompany residents out into the community. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Assist and train residents in programs as described in the Individual Program including but not limited to, toilet training, personal hygiene, dental hygiene, self-feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, communication, money management, and self medication. Record all data and document all resident behaviors and progress toward achieving goals on Individual Program Plans. Assist and train residents in laundry programs. Assist and train residents in gross and fine motor skills programs. Provide input into development of Individual Program Plans. Be familiar with and implement all training, assistance and behavior programs according to Individual Program Plans. Attend in-service training, educational programs and staff meetings as required. Assist in implementation of behavior development programs as necessary and as directed. Respect the Rights of residents. Communicate any unusual resident activity, response or conditions to the Shift Supervisor in charge. Report any hazardous conditions to the Supervisor in charge. Assure that work areas are left clean and orderly. Report any accidents or incidents to Supervisor in charge. Is familiar with and adheres to all applicable Golfview Developmental Center policies and procedures. Is familiar with and adheres to all applicable State and Federal regulations and professional standards. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Resident Services Director, and Administrator. Employee is responsible to perform work safely and as indicated on the Group Information Sheet.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be 18 years of age. High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred. Certified DD Aide or capable of taking a 130 hour course. Experience and interest in the Developmentally Disabled population preferred. Must possess a current Drivers License. Must be dependable, considerate, trustworthy, respectful, courteous, conscientious, honest, cooperative, and enthusiastic. Must have legal authorization to work within the United States of America. Must be able to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for the entire workday. The ability to use good judgment while performing job related tasks. Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and to effectively communicate with the public. Must be able to speak and read English. Must be able work flexible hours with weekend and holiday work required. Must be able to perform frequent overtime work. May sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. May lift up to 50 pounds repetitively throughout the workday. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. '
