Job Description

Direct Support Staff (Monday -Thursday 9a.m-5p.m and Friday 7am) Able Independent Care is committed to enhancing the quality of life for clients with developmental disabilities who need support. Our mission is to provide compassionate companionship and personalized care in each client's home while promoting independence, dignity, and well-being through individualized care plans and a dedicated, skilled team.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professional to join our team Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals who engage in self-injurious behaviors and property-destructive behaviors, and will bring strong skills, flexibility, and a commitment to person-centered care. This role is essential to helping clients receive appropriate crisis management support while fostering independence and meaningful companionship in the home. Primary Responsibilities
  • Implement individualized Behavior Support Plans under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Teach and reinforce communication, social, daily living, and other adaptive skills using evidence-based practices.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques and follow approved protocols to manage challenging behaviors safely and effectively.
  • Accurately record and report data on client behavior, skill acquisition, and intervention outcomes.
  • Provide compassionate companionship and support to clients in their homes while promoting independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, meal preparation, cleaning, brushing teeth, toileting, and other personal care needs.
  • Monitor, document, and report changes in clients' health and behavior before the end of each shift.
  • Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's unique needs.
  • Administer medications and update medical paperwork as needed
  • Maintain a safe and clean-living environment inside and outside the home.
  • Provide transportation to and from approved client locations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, guardians, friends, healthcare professionals, and internal team members while maintaining confidentiality and complying with HIPAA requirements.
  • Complete daily documentation and ledgers for accuracy
  • Attend and participate in weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings.
  • Maintain required training, certifications, vehicle upkeep, and other assigned duties as needed.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to behavioral or safety-related situations, including those requiring quick physical movement to protect clients and others.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to help develop and adjust treatment and support plans. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
  • CPI certification required, with proof provided.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required on or before orientation.
  • Level 1 Medication Aide certification required on or before orientation.
  • Valid driver's license and current auto insurance required on or before orientation.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required.
  • Strong organizational, time management, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and support new staff members.
  • Social Security card and bank account information for direct deposit required on day of orientation. Schedule and Work Conditions
  • Full-time position.
  • Flexibility is required for days, nights, weekends, holidays, overnights, and on-call coverage based on client and staffing needs.
