A Caregiver or Personal Care Aide provides non-medical care for adults, including elderly and disabled people, typically in their own homes. Assists clients with daily tasks including bathing, medication reminders, and light housekeeping; may also provide transportation for appointments and errands. These roles do not always require formal certification.
The Casual Sleeper (Direct Support Night Aid) provides vital overnight oversight within the residential home. While this position permits the employee to sleep during designated night hours, it requires the individual to remain fully available to wake up immediately and perform any necessary direct support duties. In the event of an individual awakening, a medical need, a behavioral issue, or an emergency, the employee must be completely alert and capable of executing all standard Direct Support Professional (DSP) responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or GED. Valid Class E operator's license (or equivalent state-required commercial/chauffeur license for transport).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports and Services Overnight Vigilance:
Maintain readiness to wake up instantly if a situation arises, transitions into full alertness to manage overnight needs, behaviors, or emergencies.
Daily Living Assistance:
Provide or assist with the preparation of meals, morning/evening routines, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the home.
Medication Administration:
Oversee and accurately document the proper administration of medications in accordance with Level 1 Medication Aide guidelines.
Dignity and Respect:
Assist each person supported in portraying a positive personal image and fostering independence.
Safety and Security:
Ensure a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all individuals in the home throughout the night and early morning.
Transportation:
Provide safe transportation for individuals using agency vehicles when needed.
Personal Plans Plan Implementation:
Know, respect, and actively support each person's individualized Personal Plan.
Development and Tracking:
Assist in all processes of personal plan development, including implementation, executing teaching plans, collecting data, contributing to monthly reviews, and maintaining accurate records.
Health and Safety Environmental Maintenance:
Maintain the residential home to reflect a clean, safe, sanitary, and healthy environment.
Vehicle Care:
Maintain agency vehicles in good repair and operate them in a safe manner, strictly adhering to the Agency Vehicle Guidelines.
Maintenance Reporting:
Promptly inform the House Manager or main office of any household or vehicle maintenance needs.
Emergency Preparedness:
Conduct and accurately document required fire, tornado, and emergency storm drills.
General Expectations Professional Relationships:
Maintain positive, professional, and appropriate relationships with individuals' families, the general community, Department of Mental Health (DMH) personnel, and fellow staff members.
Administrative Compliance:
Properly and accurately complete all required paperwork, shift logs, and incident reports before the end of the shift.
Communication:
Keep supervisors proactively informed of all relevant information, changes in individual health/behavior, or household status.
Operational Awareness:
Remain aware of the operational costs of running the home, practicing good stewardship of agency resources.
Quality Outcomes:
Keep the agency's Quality Outcomes at the forefront of all daily decisions and interactions.
Flexibility:
Attend mandatory staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions as requested. Secure advance approval from management for any scheduling changes.
