Fixed 32-40 hours a week - Must be available weekends & holidays. Regular hours are from 8 am to 4 pm.

Conway Area Humane Society is looking for a dependable and motivated Animal Caregiver to join our shelter team! Summary of Job Purpose The Animal Caregiver at CAHS is a frontline animal welfare professional responsible for providing consistent, compassionate, and high-quality care to all shelter animals while supporting daily shelter operations. This role combines hands-on animal care with cross-functional support across the organization. Animal Caregivers are responsible for meeting animals' daily needs such as feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and monitoring health while also contributing to adoptions, customer service, volunteer engagement, and overall shelter operations. Animal Caregivers are expected to be adaptable team members who can assist across departments as needed, including intake, medical support, adoptions, and public interactions. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and the public. This role reports directly to the Shelter Manager. Primary Responsibilities Provide daily humane care including feeding, watering, medicating (as directed), and monitoring animal health and behavior Monitor and promptly report any medical or behavioral concerns to the Shelter Manager Safely handle, walk, and transport animals within the facility or to offsite locations Support enrichment, socialization, and overall behavioral wellbeing Maintain accurate care notes, records, and data entry Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and other living areas within the shelter Maintain cleanliness and organization of all shelter spaces, including common areas and outdoor kennels Perform routine cleaning tasks such as laundry, dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, and stocking supplies Provide friendly, welcoming customer service to visitors, adopters, and callers Provide a judgement free, compassionate environment for those in need Help train and guide volunteers to ensure a positive, inclusive experience Support and attend offsite adoptions, events, and animal transport Communicate effectively and demonstrate reliability, accountability, and strong time management Perform additional tasks as directed by the Shelter Manager Qualifications & Skills 18 years of age or older w. minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Prior experience working or volunteering with animals is highly preferred. This includes animal shelters, doggie daycare, training facilities, groomers, and veterinary hospitals. Strong passion for animal welfare and humane care Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Calm, professional demeanor in high-stress situations Strong attention to detail Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment Ability to safely handle animals with unknown medical or behavioral histories Ability to maintain confidentiality Reliable transportation and comfort traveling in all weather conditions Personal Relations Treat all animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times. Foster a positive, supportive, and team-oriented culture within the organization. Working Environment Fast-paced, high-volume animal shelter environment Exposure to animal waste, noise, cleaning chemicals, and potentially fractious or aggressive animals Emotionally demanding work, including exposure to sick, injured, or euthanasia cases Frequent interaction with the public Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time Benefits As a full time employee at Conway Area Humane Society you are eligible for benefits after a 90-day qualifying period.
