Job Description Animal Caregiver Job Summary:
Assist with routine daily care for the animal residents of the organization under the direction of the Animal Care Manager Reports to:
Animal Care Manager Employment Status:
Full Time, non-exempt
Work Schedule:
30-40 hours/week including some weekends, holidays, and evenings Rate of pay: $18.00-20.00/hour based on experience level
Responsibilities:
    Animal Caregiver:
    Participate in preparation and distribution of animal feed Daily cleaning and replenishing of waters Routine cleaning of animal residents' housing and participate in additional cleaning projects as assigned Observe all animals for any signs of illness or distress, communicate any concerns to Animal Care Manager immediately Accurately and consistently record medical information for animal residents Assist with basic animal husbandry for pigs, goats, sheep, cows, and chickens Assist with medical tasks as deemed necessary by the Animal Care Manager Assist with loading/unloading animals for transport, as needed
    Qualifications:
    • At least 1 year of experience working with animals in a sanctuary setting, including large pigs
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs on a regular basis
    • Ability to work in all weather around animals, hay, straw, and dust
    • Direct and respectful communication skills with staff, visitors, donors, and external contractors
    • Ability to drive a standard transmission (training provided if needed)
    • Flexibility for occasional travel for work as deemed necessary
    • Comfortable working with all species of farmed animals including cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc.
    • Attention to detail and esthetics while working on projects
    • Must be able to respect an animal sanctuary environment where there is no consumption of animal products on the property
    • Scheduling is flexible throughout the year based on hours of daylight and the needs of the animals. Will be discussed more in depth during the interview process.
